Aleksandra Szewczuk (b. 1982, Gdynia) is a contemporary painter based in Sopot, Poland. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, where she studied painting under Professor Jerzy Ostrogórski.
After a period away from studio practice following her studies, Szewczuk returned to painting in 2017, beginning the sustained development of the practice she continues today.
Szewczuk works with acrylic on raw, unprimed canvas, developing a process-based approach to abstraction in which the image emerges through layering, absorption and erasure. Her paintings explore states of transition and the shifting boundaries between matter, memory and perception.
Since returning to painting, her work has been presented in institutional and gallery contexts in Europe and North America, including the State Art Gallery in Sopot, Art Centre – EL Gallery in Elbląg and Centre national d’exposition in Québec. Her work is held in the collection of the State Art Gallery in Sopot and in private collections internationally. She is represented by The Spaceless Gallery, Paris / New York.
